Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”
John 8:34
I was a slave to my rituals, the religion I created for myself.
I was a slave to cannabis.
I created a life around everything I wanted, and rejected everything I didn’t. My life was based entirely on myself,
I thought I was my own god.
My personal religion was based on works - if I did enough yoga, practiced enough meditation, did enough selfless things, I would find peace.
And I would, temporarily.
But I was never satisfied. I found myself chasing highs and experiences. I only lived for the present moment.
I was trapped in a loop of life feeling amazing and then empty, hollow, and meaningless.
I know I’m not alone.
We are either slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness.
This world offers many solutions and temporary fixes, but our only eternal fulfillment comes from God.
We ALL Have A God-Sized Void
Jesus answered,
Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
-John 4:13-14
But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
-Romans 6:17-18
